No Change in Flea Market Policy this year!! In an effort to simplify the “Land Rush” procedure for obtaining Flea Market spaces on a first come basis, we will begin taking reservations at 8:00 AM on Sunday, August 28, 2011, and will begin issuing Flea Market spaces as soon as spaces are flagged and ready. (We can’t put the flags out until Sunday morning). Please enter the park through the main entrance and drive to the Picnic Shelter Area (bear right just past the big white building on your right) and park in the lot closest to the shelters, amphitheatre, and playground. After parking your car, go to Picnic Shelter #1 and obtain a “place ticket”. You should BRING YOUR ADMISSION TICKET or be prepared to purchase a new ticket in order to be issued a “place ticket”. Please remain in the shelter area to assure that you are READY when your number is called. As soon as the spaces are ready and we have a group of 10(ten) ticket holders, you will be released (in groups of 10) to choose and pay for your space(s). After you have chosen and paid for your spaces, you will be ready to return home instead of waiting all day to return to the park. We hope that you will find this new procedure more “user friendly”. You do not have to get your space on Aug. 28th, there will still be good spaces available all the next week and on Saturday morning Sept. 3th - someone will be on site to help you. (updated 5/31/2011) To review the Flea Market procedures and to explain to those who have not attended the Shelby Hamfest before: Each person (with a paid admission ticket) may reserve up to 5 spaces at $10.00 per space (10’ X 20’) Each person must be present to reserve spaces or send a designated buyer who is NOT buying spaces for themselves. (For example, your spouse or friend could buy 5 spaces for your friend who is not able to be there on Sunday, but “you” can’t buy spaces for your friend if you are buying spaces for yourself). In order to purchase a flea market space, you must GO TO THE SPACE AND BRING BACK THE COLORED FLAG(S) from the spaces you want. (If the space does not have a flag in it, that means it has already been rented.) Once you have picked up your flags, take them to the nearest table staffed by SARC members. They will take your flags, your money, and give you a ticket for each space that you rent (this is your “deed to the property” and shows that it has been properly rented). This
procedure for renting Flea Market spaces will remain the same throughout the
week before the Hamfest. When you arrive on the Hamfest grounds, pick up the
flags from the spot(s) that you want and bring them to the Hamfest Office to pay
and receive your tickets.
